The scent of the two roses

Should we have intended to add a characteristic paragraph or a more select and distinctively appropriate expression to what we feel nowadays to portray the eloquent and literate authenticity of the Chartouni family, we would have chosen « Nafahat al Wardatayn», or the scent of the two roses, written by the renown Anissé and Afifé, daughters of Sheikh Saïd Chartouni, who happen to be the direct ancestors of Al amin Habib Chartouni, and who died at a very early age.

Brief introduction

As far as my impression is concerned, Anise Chartouni lived a life of luxury and was mainly surrounded by her peers. Her astonishingly bright character could have placed her in awkward situations as she objectively portrayed the ruling select class of her time and gave us a clearly simplistic feed-back, not without sarcasm and a sense of deep concern. Her philosophical outlook was based on her social observations relating her keen sense of justice as well as her consequent despair and disappointment. In other words, though Anise Chartouni lived more than a hundred years ago, her words still uphold the torch of wise reasoning for modern women.
